This individual is responsible to perform and oversee the operations for all special project work and detailed focus projects with a team of staff members from various job descriptions.
The primary goals of this position is to provide leadership for the department's team along with ensuring that each specific job is completed under general direction to clean, maintain and perform floor, quality of linen needs, managerial support for all phlebotomy and clerical staff needs, demonstrates effective expertise and oversees leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of assigned areas, while understanding that other duties according to regulatory requirements are being met.
The general responsibilities of this position include those listed below, but management from Chief Professional Services Officer may identify other responsibilities of the position.
These responsibilities may differ among areas and/ or units within Opelousas General Health System, depending on business and patient care necessities, organizational requirements and applicable recommendations from regulatory agencies.
The Manager of Environmental Services must be able and willing to work flexible hours.
The Manager of Environmental Services is responsible for supervising, monitoring, executing, and controlling the activities within the Environmental Services department, while ensuring that the entire organization is sanitized and disinfected for all surfaces within the physical environment.
Finally, the Manager of Environmental Services should help to administer and coordinate programs within the framework of the established policies, performs tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with the safety and health programs, assists in training and maintenance of a safe workplace for all staff within the Opelousas General Health System.
Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
Promotes the mission, vision, values, and standards of the organization Oversees management in the daily operations of specific services delivered to all customers and patients in a timely and quality manner.
Oversees the responsibility for all operations of the physical plant for Opelousas General Health System Orientate and train new employees in the safe and proper operation of all Environmental Services equipment, floor care, laundry processes as necessary Oversees the proper job training for staff, including safety lessons from Environmental Services manual Manage all employees within the Environmental Services department at Main and South Campus and physician clinics Conducts Quality Control inspections as directed by EOC/ Life Safety and Infection Control for all areas (to be audited weekly) Distributes work assignments to employees as directed Physically performs all related duties of environmental services Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and minor repair of equipment as necessary and documents all issues for Chief Professional Services Officer Promptly ensures reports of worn and broken equipment are addressed Responsible for all keys, combinations, and equipment and/or asset control within organization Responsible for inspections of buildings and areas when work is complete Oversees the establishment and maintaining a positive relationship with all customers and patients Responds to all patient complaints with a 2hr turnaround time for completion and follows up of all findings to the Chief Professional Services Officer, Infection Preventionists, Manager of Environment of Care, and Nursing Leaders Trained as Floor Care Technician, Environmental Services Attendant and Laundry Attendant to help as needed when requested for this position Responsible for man-hours and supply budget within prescribed budgets established by Chief Financial Officer Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies, materials and equipment, and overall needs on a weekly reporting basis Establishes and develops policies and monitors compliance of established methods, policies, and procedures by the Environmental Services staff Performs minor floor care buffing hard surface, shampooed carpets, and spot cleaning Performs general cleaning of patient care areas, ancillary areas, office and restrooms including general floor care Responsible for maintaining the upkeep of organization, which includes floor care and custodial duties Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure Uses and maintains all equipment properly and safely Observes safety precautions at all times, uses safety signs wet floor Ability to work without normal supervision Reports safety hazards as appropriate Ensures that all calls of Doctors Lift on patient care areas are adhered to Ability to utilize 7 Cleaning Steps when appropriate:
o Pulls trash/ linen from area o High dusts all horizontal surfaces in area o Damp wipes/ spot cleans walls/ and checks while replenishing all dispensers in area o Cleans bathroom o Dust mops the entire area o Damp mops the entire area o Inspects area for completion of all assignments Oversees the proper and safe use of cleaning chemicals per manufacturer and OGHS Environmental Services Department with direction from Infection Control Department Empties trash, garbage containers and bio-hazardous containers (3/4 full) Replenishes all supplies throughout the organization May change linens and replenish linens for all discharge patient rooms Performs patient room cleaning and discharge room cleaning Completion of Environmental Services duties within following areas:
o Patient Care Rooms and Areas (including Nourishment Stations, Nurses Stations, Clean and Soiled Utility Rooms, Medicine Rooms, and Supply Closets) o Obstetrician Rooms and Areas (including C-Section Suite) o Surgical Rooms and Areas (including Operating Rooms, Central Sterile, Decontamination, Special Procedure, and Locker Rooms) o Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Respiratory Areas, and all ancillary areas Notifies Manager of Maintenance Department concerning need for major or minor repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment by placing a work request for follow up Ensures recorded work is completed on Area Assignment Checklist daily and placed in Environmental Services binder Oversees the movement of furniture and sets-up tables and chairs for all functions within the organization Responds to all Fire/ and Codes for the organization.
Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner, with detailed documentation Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures & regulatory requirements directed by governance for department and Opelousas General Health System Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements for departments Develops leadership skills among staff including communication, decision-making, problem solving, critical thinking, and employee engagement Facilitates monthly unit meetings for departments May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned per Chief Professional Services Officer.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field required.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
4 years experience in management and environmental services required.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
