Additionally, medical office assistants are expected to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Medical office assistants generally work in private offices and health care facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Comments Interviews patients for case histories prior to appointments Schedules and coordinate appointments Assists patients with initial paperwork Accurately updates and maintains patients' health records Verifies insurance coverage and assists the billing department with processing claims Communicates test results to patients when directed by physicians or nursing professionals Assists patients with re-scheduling appointments and other scheduling issues Informs patients of credit card declines and other billing issues Education - Level Obtained Program of Study Required/Preferred High School Diploma/GED Required Certifications, Licensures & Training Required/Preferred Minimum Years of Experience Required Type of Experience Required 2 years of experience Administrative Experience Additional Experience Preferred Professional and courteous disposition Medical office experience a plus Excellent communication and time management skills Familiarity with medical and insurance legislation Excellent attention to detail Proficiency of healthcare operations Great organizational and multitasking skills Customer-oriented communication skills Ability to multitask.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
